The Great Park (UK)

Stephen ist ein englischer Songwriter, der zurzeit in Deutschland lebt, aber auch ein überaus produktiver Komponist und ein Künstler im Bereich der Reisesongs und Geschichten von Verfolgen und Verfolgung – Problem-Folk.

Nach einem Abschluss in bildender Kunst zog Stephen auf eine ländliche Farm im Westen Irlands und begann Songs zu schreiben während er darauf wartete, dass seine in Arbeit befindlichen Ölgemälde trockneten. Berührt durch die Unmittelbarkeit der Songs und die Möglichkeit neuer Erzählmöglichkeiten, kehrte er nach England in die Küstenstadt Brighton zurück und baute bald mit Hilfe einiger befreundeter Musiker das Label Woodland Recordings auf. Woodland Recordings veranstaltete regelmäßig Konzertabende in Brighton und später dann in Berlin und hat über 60 Veröffentlichungen mit Hunderten internationaler Künstler begleitet. Stephen spielte seine eigenen ersten Konzerte in Deutschland im Jahr 2008 und bereiste seitdem die Schweiz, Österreich, Dänemark, den Niederlanden, Belgien, Schweden, Finnland, Spanien, Portugal und Griechenland. Er spielt über 100 Konzerte im Jahr und hat über 15 Alben aufgenommen. Außerdem schrieb Stephen auch Theater- und Filmmusik, zuletzt für den Film „Draußen ist Sommer“, und seine Songs wurden von vielen Künstlern gecovert, darunter Sons of Noel and Adrian, Liz Green, Fee Reega, Kristin McClement, Squalloscope, Aaron Dall, Elspeth Anne und Thirty Pounds of Bone. Stephens Songs wurden alle auf seinem eigenen Label veröffentlicht, das einen strikte „home Recording“- und „handmade“-Ansatz verfolgt.

Stephen Burch is an English songwriter currently based in Germany.

He began making music whilst living on a remote farm in rural Ireland - using acoustic guitars, the family's piano, brooms and chains. His lyrical, narrative songs bear the influence of the fields of County Cork and the old streets of Berlin. Images of persecution abound, songs of urgent travel and a search for home - the unifying theme is that of grave drama within 'The Great Park'.

Stephen has played over 150 concerts each year for the past several years - touring Germany, The Netherlands, Sweden, Switzerland, Austria, Poland, Belgium, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Denmark and the UK. He has released over 14 albums on the DIY label Woodland Recordings, a compilation through the German label Timezone, has provided music for several films and his songs have been covered on releases by Liz Green, The Sons of Noel And Adrian, Thirty Pounds of Bone and others.

He likes rooms with echo, train journeys, trams and girls on bicycles.
