Paul Cataldos zweite LP "Season of the Sticks" wurde in einem 200 Jahre alten verschneiten Holzhaus in den Blue Ridge Mountains North Carolinas geschrieben und aufgenommen. Der Einzelgänger und Naturfreund Paul Cataldo kreierte mit dieser seinen neuen Veröffentlichung das Genre "Pagan Dream Folk"
Von seiner ersten LP "Rivers, Roads and Mountains" verkaufte er 4000 Exemplare, während er überall tourte, wo man zwischen Key West, Florida, und Fairbanks, Alaska, überhaupt mit dem Auto hinkommt. Während er seine neue Platte fertigstellte, bemerke er, dass sich der Stil doch sehr Unterschied von dem Americana/

Paul erzählt in seinen Liedern Geschichten über alles: Alkoholismus, Krieg, Armut, Eifersucht, den Weg nach unten, Frieden und Liebe. Normalerweise findet man ihn irgendwo auf Tour zwischen Portland, ME und Savannah. Stücke von seiner ersten LP " Rivers, Roads & Mountains" (2009) laufen im Airplay der College- Orte im Osten der USA. Die LP wurde übrigens in den Quad Studios in Nashville aufgenommen, im gleichen Raum, in dem auch Neil Youngs bahnbrechendes Album " Harvest" aufgenommen wurde.
Die ganze Instrumentierung wie auch die Stimmung des Albums schreien geradezu das Holzhaus im Wald heraus. Der Sound erinnert an CSNY's "Deja Vu" bezülich der satten stimmlichen Harmonien und beschwört eine ähnliche Intimität und poetische Bildhaftigkeit wie Iron's and Wine's "Our Endless Days are Numbered". Paul hat einige lokale Musiker zu einer Liveband um sich geschart und plant, mit Ask the Woods in den USA und Europa im Zuge des Release dieser LP zu touren, die von "No Depression" als eine "wunderschön feinfühlig aufgenommene Arbeit" beschrieben wird.

Ask the Woods' (Paul Cataldo) new release “Season of the Sticks” was written and recorded in a 200 year old snow covered log cabin in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Western North Carolina. The songs were written and performed by reclusive nature enthusiast and singer/songwriter Paul Cataldo. Paul is the sole member of the band and has coined the genre “Pagan Dream Folk” for this new release.
This is Cataldo's second release. His first release, “Rivers Roads & Mountains” under the title “Paul Cataldo” sold four thousand copies in four years as he toured everywhere drive-able from Key West, FL to Fairbanks, Alaska. Upon finishing the writing of his latest material, he noted that the style did not quite match the songs from his Americana/Roots debut. ”The new songs were just coming out dreamy, sparse and so dominated by themes of nature...my favorite trees, birds, creatures, seasons and my resistance to confirm to society's monotonous daily lust for currency were driving themes...I needed to name this project something, it will be its own beast.” said Cataldo of naming the new project Ask the Woods.
The instrumentation and mood of this album screams log cabin in the woods. The sound is reminiscent of CSNY's “Deja Vu” on account of lush vocal harmonies and conjures a similar vocal intimacy and poetic imagery from Iron & Wine's release “Our Endless Days are Numbered.” Paul has gathered a few local musicians to form a live band and plans to tour with Ask the Woods in the U.S. and Europe in support of the release that "No Depression" has called a "Beautifully delicate recorded work."
