Miles Calder (NZL)
Miles Calder ist ein Geschichten erzählender Folk-Singer-Songwriter aus Neuseeland mit einer ausdrucksstarken Stimme und rauen, bekennenden Liedern. Miles begann während seiner Studienzeit Songs zu schreiben, während er in Indie-Rock-Bands trommelte. Inspiriert von Neil Young, Justin Townes Earle, Bright Eyes und Bob Dylan sowie den weitläufigen Naturlandschaften Neuseelands, entwickelte Miles seinen geschickten und unverwechselbaren Americana Songwriting-Stil mit narrativen Texten.
Ende 2013 veröffentlicht er mit seiner Band Miles Calder & The Rumours (Nick George, Steve Moodie, Kirsten Moodie und Andrew Moore) die EP „The Crossing Over“ das in sieben prägnanten Country und Folk Songs raue Ehrlichkeit und eloquentes Erzählen zeigt. Die EP wurde 2014 nominiert für den „Taite Musikpreis“ (beste Album), der „RIANZ Best Country Music“ (bestes Album). Die Singles "The Crossing Over" und "The Avenue" erhielten Anerkennungen sowohl in der“ Internationalen Songwriting Competition“ , als auch beim „The John Lennon Songwriting Contest“. Die Band spielte diverse Konzerte und war Vorband von „M. Ward“ (USA) und „Fly My Pretties“ (NZ). Miles lebt derzeit in East Village, New York, um neues Material zu schreiben. Gerade nimmt er mit der Band den ersten Longplayer auf, der im Jahr 2016 veröffentlicht werden soll.

Miles Calder & The Rumours formed in late 2011 and have since been regularly gracing the stages around Wellington. In March 2013, the band was lucky enough to be one of the last artists to record in the iconic Surgery Studios in Tasman Street, Wellington. With Ryan Prebble at the helm they recorded seven tracks live over two days. The resulting debut, The Crossing Over, is out now.
