Myrkvi startete offiziell 2020 als Soloprojekt von Magnús Thorlacius. Seine Debütsingle Sér um sig erreichte Platz 2 der nationalen Radiocharts und Gamechanger folgte bald darauf auf Platz 5. Das vielbeachtete Debütalbum wurde am 30.10.20 auf dem Höhepunkt einer weltweiten Pandemie veröffentlicht.

Magnús' Karriere begann, als er die Band Vio gründete, die 2014 den isländischen Battle of the Bands gewann, wobei er auch den Preis für den besten Sänger abräumte. Die Band wurde Mitte der 2010er Jahre für eine Weile zu den Indie-Lieblingen Islands.

Sie wurden zweimal bei den Icelandic Music Awards nominiert und hatten nationale Hits wie You Lost It. Später wurde die Unterscheidung zwischen den beiden Projekten unscharf.

Der Name Vio wurde aufgegeben und Yngvi wurde mit Myrkvi zusammengebracht.

Myrkvi und seine rechte Hand, Yngvi Holm, bringen 2023 ein gemeinsames Album mit dem Titel Early Warning heraus. Es stellt einen Abschluss der Vergangenheit des Duos und den Übergang zu etwas Neuem dar. Eine introspektive Reflexion über ihre 90er-Wurzeln, vergeudete Jahre und den gemeinsamen Wahnsinn.

Myrkvi officially began in 2020 as Magnús Thorlacius’ solo project. His debut single Sér um sig reached 2nd place on the national radio chart and Gamechanger soon followed reaching 5th place. The well-received debut album was released on 30.10.20 at the height of a world pandemic.
Magnús’ career began when he formed the band Vio, which won the 2014 Icelandic Battle of the Bands, with him also scooping the best singer award. The band became the indie darlings of Iceland for a while in the mid-2010s. They were nominated twice at the Icelandic Music Awards and enjoyed national hits like You Lost It. The distinction between the two projects later became fuzzy.
The Vio moniker was abandoned and Yngvi became involved with Myrkvi.
Myrkvi and his right-hand man, Yngvi Holm, are releasing an album together in 2023 called Early Warning. It represents a conclusion to the duo’s past and the transition into something new. An introspective reflection of their 90s roots, wasted years, and common lunacy.
