Nico Rivers and the Black Grass (USA)
Nico Rivers ist ein Singer/Songwriter mit Sitz in Boston, USA. Gemeinsam mit Partnerin und Sängerin Emily Graham-Handley präsentiert er eine emotional aufgeladene Mischung aus Indie-Rock und Americana.
Bereits als Teenager begann Rivers seine musikalische Karriere und tourte unermüdlich durch Massachusetts, wo er auch Graham-Handley kennenlernte.
Sie sangen zum ersten Mal als Studierende in einer chaotischen WG in Massachusetts. Damals umfasste ihr Repertoire nur eine Handvoll Singalongs und Coversongs.
Einige Zeit später zog es Rivers nach Los Angeles. Dort arbeitete er in den Eastwest Studios und TTG Studios, veröffentlichte drei EPs, tourte durch die USA und Europa und spielte dabei auch Festivals wie das South by Southwest, SS Cape May und das Club Passim’s Campfire.
2016 war das Duo wieder an der Ostküste vereint: Graham-Handley studierte Dokumentarfilm während Rivers in Bars und Clubs in ganz New England auftrat. Es dauerte nicht lange, bis sich die Beiden auch als musikalisches Duo gefestigt hatten und Geschichten und Lieder auf der Bühne erzählten.
Zu zweit passen sie ihre Songs mit einer Vielzahl von akustischen Instrumenten an, um eine Grundlage für ihre durchdachten Harmonien und Texte zu schaffen. Viele ihrer Lieder, wie "Ghosts", "Wintertime" und "The Wheel", erforschen die seltsame Natur der menschlichen Existenz und des Bewusstseins. Aber das bedeutet nicht, dass sie nicht über scheinbar leichtere Themen wie Beziehungen, Kindheit und Astronauten singen.

Nico Rivers and Emily Graham-Handley first sang together as college students in a messy apartment in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Back then it was just a handful of singalongs and cover songs. Soon, the two would part ways on parallel journeys to Los Angeles and back to Boston.
They were reunited on the East Coast, where Emily was studying documentary filmmaking and Nico was performing in bar rooms and clubs up throughout New England. They began performing together occasionally and it wasn't long before they were on the road, sharing stories and songs as a duo.
As a duo, they adapt their songs into a stripped-down performance featuring a variety of acoustic instruments to build a foundation for their thoughtfully crafted harmonies and lyrics. Many of their songs, such as “Ghosts”, “Wintertime” and “The Wheel”, explore the odd nature of human existence and consciousness. But, that doesn't mean they don't sing about seemingly lighter topics such as relationships, childhood and astronauts.
